The Multi Tasking Ninja

You know when you hear or see something several times in a short timeframe and you realise that its potentially the universe offering you the answer this is what lead to the multi tasking ninja label.    Controversially perhaps the final decision to use it came from a protest sign I saw which said “because multi tasking ninja isn’t in our job description” – and I (rightly or wrongly) smiled and thought it would be (and perhaps should be) in mine!

I loved it, normally I hear “ohh I can see your a bit of a jack of many trades”, or “you have a broad background” but they sound so negative like your unfocused or unable to commit?  But thats not how I feel (I can’t speak for others) but I love knowing a lot about a lot, I love having skills that mean I can do whole jobs across many areas, jump in where needed and offer assistance.   Throughout my working life I have stayed with companies for considerable periods of time, but I haven’t just sat in a job,  I have utilised the opportunity to learn, develop and grow.

Growing up I never knew where my professional career was heading. Much like people fall in love with a person because of the potential for life change that love will bring,  I have always fallen in love with the opportunity of the job.  Often starting in one position but moving around within the company so I could remain interested and challenged.  Curiosity and a need to be challenged constantly, has lead to building a broad background of skills and knowledge, and over time this developed to a passion for having roles which weren’t task specific and eventually, it landed me with my own business and the picture was complete.  Simply put SME owners and entrepreneurs have to be multi faceted, mostly because initially you can’t afford to pay anyone else but because, when its yours, the buck stops here!

We live in an agile world now, I know ‘buzz word alert’ but we really do, technology is developing at such an intense rate that we have to be able to move quickly to keep up.  As companies we have to be able to communicate messages about our brand and business to layers of platforms, tailoring each one for the setting and target segment.  Advertising shifts and models to meet the current trends and digital marketing has become the way of the future.  And all this has to be navigated while producing product or offering a service and running a company as well.

So being a multi tasking ninja for SME owners, workers and many other people out there in business or in their personal lives is part of the job description every single day!  And its I think, a badge to wear with pride, ninja’s are masters of their field, they are unflustered under pressure and rise to challenges rather than shy away from them.   So if you relish the possibility of having multi tasking ninja in your job spec because thats exactly who you are and how you want to be recognised – get in contact we would love to hear from you.
